Aarhus Space Centre Invited as Keynote at Trilateral Governmental Conference
Aarhus Space Centre has been invited to present Keynote lecture at the 15th trilateral governmental conference in Esbjerg on Wednesday 27 May 2026, hosted by the present Danish Presidency over the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation.
The invitation is due to the involvement by SpaCe, and thus Aarhus University, in supporting the local Danish efforts to protect the dark nightsky from the growing light pollution. We have obtained a grant from the Darker Sky project under the EU funded Interreg North Sea activity, and SpaCe is the (only) Danish partner in this international collaboration between the North Sea countries France, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark.
The main theme for this year's conference is 'Protection through Recognition.' Our Keynote lecture will be held at Musikhuset, Esbjerg during a side event to the official ministerial conference. The side event, themed 'Ports as Guardians of the Wadden Sea' is hosted by Port Esbjerg.
The Keynote 'The importance of Darker Skies' will be addressing problems in being good neighbours when one is a growing industrial area and the other is a protected nature reservation with needs for peace and darkness at night. Lecturer will be communications manager Ole J. Knudsen from SpaCe.
Held every 3 to 4 years, the Trilateral Governmental Conference (TGC) brings together ministers from Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands to review progress and set future priorities for protecting the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.
