About:
The Space Diplomacy and Technological Sovereignty working group is a forum for exploring research interests that intersect with discussions of science diplomacy, industrial policy, and the role of technological development in mediating interests across sectors and national borders. Of particular interest to the group is exploring “small state” science diplomacy, the idea of technological sovereignty, the capacity of technology to project particular futures, the role of imagery and modelling to driving societal development; the role of science fiction in imagining the future.
The working group is currently comprised of researchers with a background in literature studies, history of ideas, and anthropology. The overall purpose is to gather researchers from the humanities and social sciences whose interest cluster around the roles technology throughout history has played in mirroring, diagnosing, or projecting the future in the present.
The working group makes use of the following formats: Application workshops where shared or individual grant-applications are developed and discussed. Discussion meetings where concrete topics of interest to the group is discussed, sometimes with invited guests.
