Astronomy on Tap is Back – A Fun Night with Quizzes, News and Science!
After a long break due to the pandemic, Astronomy on Tap in Aarhus returned on 9 April 2025, at Tir na nÓg.

More than 60 people came to enjoy an evening full of exciting space stories, quizzes, news, and a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and good company. The main speaker of the night was Professor Hans Kjeldsen from Aarhus University, who gave a fascinating talk about the northern lights. He explained what causes this amazing natural light show in the sky, how the Sun sends charged particles toward Earth, and why we can sometimes be lucky enough to see auroras in Denmark. His talk included many great photos, animations, and diagrams, and he shared helpful tips on how to see the northern lights yourself:
- Look for clear weather
- Face north for the best chance
- Avoid bright moonlight and streetlights
- Dim your phone screen to preserve night vision
- Best viewed around or after midnight
- Check space weather/aurora forecasts regularly
The event also featured a fun quiz with great prizes, organized by a group of students from the Department of Physics and Astronomy. To finish the evening, one of the students, Maria Prochal, also provided exciting space news about the International Space Station, northern lights on other planets, visible planets in the night sky, and other fascinating updates from the universe
The bar was packed, and the night was a big success!
The next Astronomy on Tap Aarhus will take place on Wednesday, May 14, from 19:00–21:00 at Tir na nÓg. There will be new talks, fresh space news, fun quizzes, and of course, cold drinks!
