This edition of Astronomy on Tap takes us to the darkest corners of the universe, where postdocs Maya Sophia Silverman and Adriana Svetlana Dropulic will take us on an adventure into the mysterious 95% of the universe that we still know very little about.
Speakers: Maya Sophia Silverman & Adriana Svetlana Dropulic
Maya Sophia Silverman is a postdoc at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. She studies dark matter using state-of-the-art simulations of isolated and disrupting low-mass galaxies. Maya also has experience developing and assessing programming to support a diverse cohort of students in physics and astronomy. She completed her PhD in Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine, and her bachelor's degree in Physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Adriana Svetlana Dropulic is a DARK Postdoctoral Fellow at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on understanding what disrupting satellite galaxies can reveal about the properties of dark matter. She also has experience teaching research writing as a faculty member and fellow in the Princeton Writing Program, as well as mentoring and supporting diverse students in physics. She completed her PhD in Physics at Princeton University and her bachelor's degree at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied physics, mathematics, and French literature. Her research experience also includes work at NASA and CERN.
As always, we’ll have our signature astro quiz — with stellar prizes for the winners.
We’ll wrap up with Space News, so you’re up to date on the latest happenings across the cosmos.
