Denmark Sets Course for New National Space Missions – Aarhus University to Play Central Role

Together with the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen University, Aalborg University, the IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Southern Denmark, and Danish Industry, Aarhus University has, by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, been appointed to steer and facilitate the process of creating the future framework for new national space missions.

As outlined in the Ministry’s recent call "On the lookout for new Ørsted missions" (April 2025), this initiative marks the beginning of a new era for Danish space research and innovation.

In the press release dated 25th of April 2025 the Minister of Higher Education and Science, Chrstina Egalund, states:

“The importance of space for our lives here on Earth is increasing year by year, especially when it comes to security and climate research. That’s why we want to increase Denmark’s engagement in space – and here upcoming space missions will play a key role in that effort. In close collaboration between universities and industry, we across the sector must determine the direction for Denmark’s space priorities over the next ten years. I very much look forward to following the consortium’s work – and our future space missions.”
