New book out on the history of the Kepler and TESS asteroseismology consortia
A new book, "The Kepler and TESS Asteroseismic Consortia – A Historical Overview," tells the story of how KASC and TASC grew from an idea into the collaborative communities that helped drive forward asteroseismology using data from Kepler and TESS. The book is devised and edited by SpaCe's Mikkel N. Lund and Tiago Campante (CAUP).
In the new book "The Kepler and TESS Asteroseismic Consortia – A Historical Overview," the story is told of how the international scientific consortia KASC and TASC took shape — communities and collaborative ecosystems that proved essential in driving forward the field of asteroseismology and unlocking the use of data from NASA's space missions Kepler and TESS for stellar science.
In an attempt to capture some of the field's collective memory (and the good stories that go with it), while the primary sources are still accessible, the book gathers personal testimonials and reflections from a number of people who played central roles in forming the consortia, including Hans Kjeldsen and Jørgen Christensen-Dalsgaard from AU.
The book is devised and edited by SpaCe's Mikkel N. Lund together with Tiago Campante from the Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP). Its release marks the return of the KASC/TASC Workshop series to Aarhus in 2026 — the place where the consortia's original framework was conceived and set in motion.
