Solar eclipse 2026: What you can see from Denmark
On Wednesday 12 August, a partial solar eclipse will be visible from Denmark, weather permitting. Find out when and how to observe the eclipse safely – and what makes a total solar eclipse an entirely different experience.
The solar eclipse of Wednesday 12 August 2026 will be visible also from Denmark between 19:10 and 20.05 Danish Summer Time - provided that the clouds allow. From here the eclipse will be partial, up to 85,1% depending on where in the country you observe it. A partial solar eclipse is not notable unless you are informed beforehand. Unless you observe the Sun directly during the eclipse the only effects visible will be maybe a slight darkening of daylight under a cloud free sky, colours become fainter and shadows are sharper, when the eclipse is deepest, and you may note that the small images of the Sun that you may see on the ground if you stand under leaves or the like are boat-shaped.
Observing the Sun is always dangerous to your eyes and camera; not more or less dangerous during an eclipse. Use safe eclipse viewers or glasses carrying a CE certificate number - and use nothing else unless you are an expert. Eyes and cameras may be damaged irreparably in less than 1/10 of a second.
Why look at it at all? Experiencing a total solar eclipse is something else to many people. It is known to have caused grown men and women cry. Standing in the outdoors and seeing clear daylight turn into nightly dusk in seconds is a thing that is awe inspiring or it may trigger some of our deep ingrained fears of sudden changes around us. It may be an experience the you will never forget, and tens of thousands of people will confirm this by immediaely starting to plan for the next total eclipse when this one is over. In the moments up to and during the totality a wealth of phenomena are happening so fast that you will have to plan beforehand what to concentrate on, not the least the Solar Corona - i.e. the outer atmosphere of the Sun - that is only visible from the ground during a total solar eclipse.
