Watch Aarhus go dark during Seeing Stars
A new video from Aarhus Festival captures how the area around Rådhusparken and Musikhusparken was darkened for Seeing Stars – and how people gathered to share a rare moment of darkness in the city.
On Sunday 6 September, streetlights, façade lighting and lights in several central buildings were switched off as Seeing Stars brought Aarhus Festival 2026 to a close. Created by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde and Studio Roosegaarde, the artwork invited people to experience the city with less artificial light.
Although clouds kept the stars out of sight, the evening offered an opportunity to gather in the darkness and reflect on our connection to the night sky.
SpaCe – Aarhus Space Centre participated alongside Ole Rømer Observatory and FUT – the Remote Teaching Telescope. Karsten Brogaard and a team of students and volunteers welcomed visitors at telescopes in the park, sharing their knowledge of astronomy and what lies above the city.
The new video offers a look back at the evening and the transformation of this part of central Aarhus.
